Synopsis:
Stay away from it if you hate love stories. Its
a good love story
wrapped in tragedy and doled out in parts to the audience through
some great acting and fabulous music and the age old drama of
Hindu-Muslim inter-religious marriage. The first half is
comparatively better than the second. The message explicitly
displayed “Girls can fuck up the lives of even the best of person.”
But the real message “Love can make you attain the sky and at the
next moment it can smash you to the grounds like a washer man beating
his clothes.” Here you have Kundan (Danush), a uneducated Pandit
from the streets of Benaras who falls heads over heels in love with a
wealthy Muslim girl. Here the love blossoms through the innocence of
childhood to the struggles of youth and finally till their tenderness
gives way to maturity.
On
the other hand, Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) who loves Jasjit (Abhay) a Hindu
youth charismatic leader and they plan to tie the knot. Hindus are
not allowed to marry Muslims in India and so Jasjit is posed as Anwar
and presented to Zoya's family with the able backing of the
heartbroken Kundan. And, thus starts the second stage of tragedy, as
the protagonist aptly puts it “Lanka dahan to abh shuru hua hai”.
From here till Kundan breathes his last its a story of revenge,
betrayal, cold headed politics and above all undying love.
Music:
The songs were aptly placed and melodious. Rahman magic can again be
felt here
